Indianapolis Comic Con!

https://indianacomicconvention.com/

One of our FAVORITE CONVENTIONS is coming up soon! Indianapolis Comic Con is August 30-September 1 at the Indianapolis Convention Center.

We've been coming to this con for years and every year is better than the last.

What can you expect?
Indy Lightsaber Academy will be set up in the Game Room. We will be hosting free ongoing training sessions for kids and adults. There will also be 2-3 tournaments a day. And probably our most fun event is our Sabotage tournament Saturday evening. Not only will you be able to showcase your saber skills, but you'll do it while potentially wearing a wig or pool floaty (among many many other things).

Training Sessions:
Friday-Sunday
Open-7 PM
FREE

Our free lightsaber training sessions are offered all throughout the con at many different times. We'll have a sign up sheet to coordinate groups and get in as many people as possible. Unlike our normal class where the age restriction is 12 and up. During Comic Con there is no age limit. So this is a good time to get your little one trained in the Jedi arts.

We provide all training materials and equipment. No experience or equipment is required.

During these training sessions you'll learn how to safely handle a lightsaber and a quick introduction of our Form I. Sessions will last approximately 10-15 minutes depending on group size.

Tournaments:
Schedule TBA

Compete against your fellow con goers and students of Indy Lightsaber Academy in our popular con tournaments. For a small fee you can get more in depth instruction and sparring practice. You can even try out different Forms and see which one best fits you.

Unlike the free training sessions, the age restriction on the tournaments is 13 and up. If you're under 18 you MUST have a parent or guardian present.

Our tournaments have always been a fun time to try something new, and even discover that you're a budding Jedi. Several years ago Christine stopped by our booth and reluctantly signed up for the tournament, only to later win the whole thing. She has since become a regular student at ILA and has even competed on our International Team.
Costume took a beating though

Sabotage Tournament:
Saturday evening

Like our regular tournaments, but with a twist. Here you'll have a chance to not only showcase your skills with a saber. But also how well you perform while being handicapped. Before each match everybody that's watching and competing will be able to bid on certain items. These items can then be applied to whichever fighter you want.

Not only is it a fun time, but the winner of the tournament wins a BRAND NEW LIGHTSABER!
(some restrictions apply)

Further details and rules will be made available closer to the event.

Our booth will be located in the Game Room. Tournament schedules and times will be posted shortly. Check our Facebook page for more update to date information.

What else?
In addition to training sessions and tournaments, we'll have our booth set up with a bunch of merch and lightsabers. Try out some sabers, buy a shirt, or just talk to our instructors about what we do. It's a fun time.

History of the Yellow Lightsaber

Try and guess what all these things have in common? The sun. School buses. Rain coats. Older headlights. If you guessed "things that are yellow", you'd be correct. But what if I told you that one more thing could be added to the list. That would be "The first lightsaber". I know what you're thinking. You're thinking "Doug, lightsabers are blue, red and green" and that's how it's always been. Then you might go into the story about how Samuel L. Jackson ended up with his purple saber. Some of you might even say something about Temple Guards. But generally when you think about lightsabers those are the colors that come to mind. While all that might be true, the yellow saber has much deeper roots in the Star Wars universe. Or perhaps I should say the "Star Wars merchandise-iverse".  Toy Lightsabers In today's lightsaber filled world, it might be hard to imagine a time before laser s

7 Forms of Lightsaber Combat

7 Forms of Lightsaber Combat - Part 1 History of Lightsaber Martial Arts This post is probably a long time coming. But today I'm going to briefly cover what the 7 Forms of lightsaber combat are and how they're mostly ridiculous. In part 2, I'll go over what our Forms look like. Although (and I'll probably mention this several times) our forms may or may not align with existing canon. Or basically, yes we have 7 forms. But they might not be what you're expecting. Good luck with your training Speaking of canon. The 7 Forms that we all know and love have only been canon since 2002 (shortly before Episode II). And even then a lot of their mentions have been expunged when Disney bought out the franchise (even the current descriptions have been altered or reduced). It's also important to note that there are very few direct references to the Forms other than visual guides and the like. And NONE of the movies prior to AotC directly integrated or even a

5 Worst Lightsaber Designs

“This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster; an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.” Horse crap. Lightsabers were first made from camera flash tubes, sink knobs, and grenade parts. These features were then extrapolated and exploited in Star Wars for the next 30 years. During that time we've seen a LOT of different sabers. And almost none of them are practical. This can be attributed to "greebles". What are they? Greeble : a fine detailing added to the surface of a larger object that makes it appear more complex, and therefor e  more visually interesting. It usually gives the audience an impression of increased scale. It's something that serves no purpose whatsoever. So it would only make sense that lightsabers would have a whole bunch of them. But the thing is, we've now come to expect this from lightsabers. In a fictional universe fine. However more and more people are actually starting to hold something they&#
